Guiyang 贵阳
Guiyang, a city break before the wider province
Guiyang can introduce Guizhou through a manageable mix of streets, green space and distinctive flavours. Give it a day or two before heading to distant villages or mountain scenery. A thoughtful city stay helps separate the provincial capital’s everyday life from the much wider region it connects you to.

Keep the first day central
Begin with a compact walk around central Guiyang, using a historical landmark or riverfront stretch as an anchor. Add a local lunch and one museum or park according to your interests. There is no need to cover the whole city before understanding a small part of it. Leave some time for food streets without treating every crowded stall as a required stop or every queue as proof of quality.
Give Qingyan its own half-day
Qingyan Ancient Town sits outside the central urban area and works better as a deliberate outing. Walk beyond the busiest commercial stretch, looking at stonework, gateways and the arrangement of lanes. Respect homes and active religious buildings, entering only spaces that welcome visitors. The town is a lived and visited place, so appreciate its layers rather than expecting an unchanged scene from a single historical period.
Plan the Guizhou extension honestly
Huangguoshu, village stays in Qiandongnan and mountain destinations elsewhere in the province involve different routes and substantial transfers. Choose the next stop for its own merits instead of adding several as interchangeable day trips. A short Guiyang stay can help organise the journey, rest and learn about regional food. Keep enough flexibility for wet weather, which can change both outdoor comfort and travel times.
At the table.
Siwawa wraps let you combine crisp vegetables with a dipping sauce, while changwang noodles have a richer meat-and-offal character. Ask about broth and sauce ingredients, and explain chilli preferences before ordering rather than after the bowl arrives.
Before you go.
Guiyang North, Guiyang East and Guiyang Railway Station are separate locations. Match the exact station before arranging a transfer. Carry rain protection and shoes with grip for stone lanes, and check road and access conditions before a longer excursion into the surrounding hills.
