Wenzhou combines a busy river city with dramatic mountain scenery across a much larger region. Start with a compact urban visit, then give Yandang its own overnight or full excursion. Treat the change of landscape as the point of the journey, with time for seafood, old streets and a comfortable return.

Meet the city beside the Ou River
Jiangxin Island provides an appealing starting point, with riverside views and historic buildings that contrast with the urban banks. Check the boat and access arrangements before planning the rest of the day around it. Back in the centre, a short walk through established shopping streets can lead into dinner. Keep this first outing modest if you have arrived by a long rail or air journey.
Give Yandang a separate base
The Yandang scenic areas are spread across several valleys and approaches. Pick a limited combination of routes that suits your mobility and the weather rather than assuming one entrance covers a single compact park. A stay near the relevant scenic area can make the day easier. Distinguish a landscape walk from an ambitious mountain hike, and leave energy for the steps and transfers between notable views.
Choose river countryside or another city day
The Nanxi River countryside offers another possible extension, with villages and valley scenery, but it belongs to a different outing rather than an automatic addition to Yandang. Choose a specific village or public walking route and arrange transport in both directions. If time is limited, stay in Wenzhou for food and urban exploring. A second mountain or river region is useful only when the schedule can absorb it.

Look for Wenzhou fish-ball soup, fish cakes or a shared seafood meal. Preparations may combine fish with starch and other ingredients, so check allergens. Ask how shellfish is cooked and choose dishes that suit your group.
